String Quartet No. 1
This string quartet was written in 1991 and performed that same year at Columbia University.
First movement / Second movement / Third movement / Fourth movementTwelve Rhythmic Studies for Piano
This set of pieces was written in 1992. Each study is based on a rhythmic idea. Selections from the set have been performed by Ian Hobson, Margaret Kampmeier, Luk', and myself. In 1994 the complete set was choreographed by the dance department faculty at Barnard College. (These MIDI files were generated from my own performances.)

These pieces were written in 1995 and revised in 1997, and are dedicated to my first niece, Anna Harriet Metzger. I tried to make them relatively easy to play (unlike the Rhythmic Studies, which I can barely play myself). I think I succeeded in some cases, but in others I got a bit carried away.

Written in 1995, this piece was my first real attempt at writing for brass. I always wanted to write a chamber piece involving a rock drum set, and it seemed like a brass quintet could hold their own against drums pretty well. The result is kind of like "Gabrieli meets Earth, Wind & Fire". The piece is in five movements.
